Early Life and Education
Born as Mary Elizabeth Clarke, Emmy Clarke was born in Mineola, New York on September 25, 1991. Clarke’s name, “Emmy” comes from the combination of alphabets from her first and middle names, Mary Elizabeth. Clarke moved along with her family to Houston, Texas when she was one year old and her early years were spent there. Clarke has two siblings – an older brother whose name is Patrick and a younger sister named Bridget.
When she was 6 years old, Clarke moved along with her family to Woking, England. At Woking, she studied at The American International School (known as TASIS England). When she was 11 years old, Clarke returned to the United States and settled down in New York City. Here, she began learning ballet at the Royal Academy of Dance and learned the dance form for close to 10 years. Later, she joined Fordham University, New York City and completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication & Media Studies in the year 2014.
Clarke’s career as an actress started at a very young age and she entered the entertainment and acting world when she was 12 years old. In 2003, Clarke made a brief appearance in My House in Umbria, a television mystery drama film, which won critical acclaim. The movie was a huge success with a large star cast including Chris Cooper, Maggie Smith, Timothy Spall and Ronnie Barker and received positive reviews from the critics. It also earned 2 nominations for the Golden Globe and a Primetime Emmy Award. Emmy received the 2004 Young Artist Award for the Best Performance in a TV Movie, Mini-Series/ Special Supporting Young Actress.
Clarke had quite a successful start to her career; however, the real breakthrough came in 2005, when she was chosen for the role of Julie Teeger, a recurring role in the TV comedy-drama series, Monk, which is about a brilliant private detective, Adrian Monk who has several phobias and compulsive habits. The series aired from 2002 to 2009. Starting with season 3 episode, titled, Mr. Monk and the Red Herring, Clarke featured in 24 episodes of the show between 2004 – 2009 and played the role of Adrian Monk’s assistant, Natalie Teeger’s daughter.
In 2006, Clarke’s role in the biographical drama, Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus in 2006, brought her into the limelight, where she played the role of the main character’s daughter. The main character of Diane Arbus was assayed by Nicole Kidman, the Oscar-winning actress, where she plays the role of a renowned American photographer.
Clarke featured in a short film titled, Capture the Flag in 2010 and this was followed by a role in The Line, a TV drama film, in 2010, where she played the role of Jessie Donovan. She was then cast in Apartment Troubles, in 2014. However, the comedy-drama film did not do very well and was a commercial failure.
As per credible sources, Clarke’s estimated net worth as of early 2020 is around $2 million, which she amassed between 2003 to 2014 mainly via her short stint in acting, though, a highly lucrative one.
Despite being a public figure and having a successful acting career for a decade, where she appeared regularly in front of the camera, Clarke has maintained a very private personal life and there are no details available about her love affairs or romantic liaisons. Clarke is quite active on social media such as Instagram, where she has around 7,781 followers and a Twitter account which she joined in December 2009, where she has around 600 followers.
